Joe Biden’s Popularity Hits New Lows
Things are going from bad to worse with the popularity of US President Joe Biden. On Thursday, a new low was reached: only 41 percent of those polled approve of their president’s policies, a decrease of 4 percentage points from a week earlier.
It is Biden’s lowest popularity in the weekly national poll since taking office early last year.
The Reuters and Ipsos poll also shows that six in ten Americans think the country is heading in the wrong direction. The corona pandemic and economic consequences are worrying many Americans.
Biden’s popularity remained well above 50 percent in the early months of his presidency. Still, it fell in August last year as the US coronavirus death toll rose and the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan led to the fall of Kabul.
Biden’s low popularity is still higher than the low of his predecessor Donald Trump, whose policy was approved by only 33 percent of Americans in December 2017.
