Ten Dead in Afghan Mine Accident
At least ten people have been killed in an accident at a mine in Afghanistan. This was learned on Thursday from the authorities of Baghlan province in the northeast of the country.
“Irresponsible and unprofessional” men were mining coal when part of the mine collapsed, it says. More details about the cause of the accident are missing. The accident happened on Wednesday.
Three men could be rescued. They are in good health. Seven bodies have since been recovered, and three are still under the rubble.
Illegal mining is a major problem in resource-rich Afghanistan. However, it is unclear how much control the radical Islamist Taliban has over mining since they took power in Afghanistan last year.
