Czech Volleyball Beach Player Tests Positive in Olympic Games
Czech beach volleyball player Ondrej Perusic has tested positive for corona in the Olympic village of the Games in Tokyo. He has no symptoms, according to his team doctor, but has been quarantined.
It is also being investigated with which people he may have been in close contact with.
Perusic is known to be the fourth person to have tested positive for corona in the Olympic village, after two football players and a video specialist from the South African football team.
During the Olympic Games, which open on Friday, a total of about 18,000 athletes and coaches will move into the village. At the peak time, about halfway through the Games, there will be up to 6,700 at a time.
“We inevitably have cases of infection,” acknowledged IOC director Christophe Dubi. However, he assured that everything is being done to “minimize the risk of a coronavirus outbreak.”
