The Number of Daily Infections in India Drops Below 200,000
In India, 196,427 new corona infections have been identified in the past 24 hours, the Indian Ministry of Health reported Tuesday morning. That is the lowest number of infections within 24 hours since April 14.
The total number of infections in India has risen to almost 27 million. This puts the country in second place worldwide and should only let the US go first. More than 33 million inhabitants have been infected there.
The number of recorded deaths in India from the lung virus rose by 3,511 in the past 24 hours and stands at 307,231 since the start of the pandemic. India has the most corona deaths after the United States and Brazil. In the past two weeks, about 50,000 residents have died from Covid-19.
The Indian capital New Delhi reported on Sunday that it would ease the lockdown from next week if the number of corona infections decreases. The capital went into lockdown on April 20. The number of infections detected has been decreasing for several weeks.
The percentage of positive results among the people tested is currently below 2.5 percent. That was a whopping 36 percent last month, according to local authorities.
