Ukrainian President Addresses US Parliament
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky addresses the US Congress on Wednesday via an online connection. In addition, he delivered a video address to nearly 300 US lawmakers on March 5.
Congress recently approved a $13.6 billion package of aid to Ukraine.
Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Senate Leader Chuck Schumer announced the speech on Monday. The two said they were impressed by the Ukrainian population, who showed “exceptional courage, resistance and determination”.
Zelensky has successfully portrayed himself in the media as a heroic defender of his country against an aggressive attacker, Russia.
As a result, sympathy for his cause has grown worldwide, especially in Western countries. This while Russia hardly gets any support, only some messages of support from Belarus and Syria and some encouragement from old allies such as Cuba and Venezuela.
