Newspaper: Trump’s Team Weakens Plan for Import Duties
Staff members of incoming President Donald Trump appear to be weakening his plans for “universal” import duties.
According to the American newspaper The Washington Post, behind the scenes, they are currently examining responsibilities that would apply to every country but only to crucial imports.
As a presidential candidate, Trump advocated duties of 10 to 20 percent on everything imported into the United States.
However, The Washington Post has heard that within the team behind the incoming president, there is now talk about duties that only apply to sectors considered crucial to national or economic security.
The newspaper adds that no final decisions have been made yet. Plans for the new presidency are said to be in full swing. The team preparing the power transfer for Trump declined to comment to The Washington Post.
