NATO Chief: Chinese Government Leaders does not Share Our Values
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said Chinese government leaders “do not share our values” after he emerged from a meeting with US President Joe Biden on Monday.
“We see that in the way they crackdown on the democratic protests in Hong Kong, how they deal with minorities. And how they force neighbours like Taiwan. So we have to stand up for the rules-based national order,” the NATO chief said.
Biden will attend a NATO summit in Brussels on June 14, which will discuss China and Russia, among others, Stoltenberg told reporters at the White House.
According to Stoltenberg, NATO supports Biden’s approach to Russia, including the dialogue that will take place between US President and Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland. That summit is scheduled for June 16.
“We agree on the two-track approach. That is, deterrence, defence and dialogue with Russia,” Stoltenberg said.
