Malian Woman Gave Birth to Nine Babies
A Malian woman gave birth to nine babies on Tuesday – more than two doctors predicted in her overflowing womb.
The pregnancy of 25-year-old Halima Cisse was big news in the West African country. Because Cisse needed special care, she was flown to Morocco, where she gave birth.
“The newborns (five girls and four boys) and the mother are all fine,” Mali’s health minister Fanta Siby said in a statement. All babies were delivered by Caesarean section.
It is extremely rare to have a nine-year-old. Often, having so many children at once is accompanied by medical complications, which means that some babies do not survive the full pregnancy.
