UN Diplomats: Pandemic Worsens Conflicts Worldwide
The corona pandemic is further worsening the humanitarian situation in conflict zones around the world, warn diplomats and experts from the United Nations.
According to them, the violence will flare up further due to the economic consequences of the worldwide outbreak of the new corn virus.
The lung virus complicates, among other things, aid programs and less money and attention to conflict areas, according to UN diplomats and experts.
“We are very concerned that the economic consequences are causing even more disorder and conflict,” said expert Richard Gowan. “We’re still in the first chapter of a pretty long drama.”
The call for a global ceasefire by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in March seems to have largely fallen on deaf ears. For the time being, fighting continues in fires such as Yemen, Libya and Syria.
