Truck Drives into Security Barrier Near White House, Suspect Arrested
A man was arrested Monday evening near the White House in Washington, D.C., after he drove a rented truck into a security barrier.
This has been announced by the Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting the American president.
The accident happened just before 10 p.m. local time, a few hundred meters from the White House, in an area where several luxury hotels are located. No Secret Service or White House personnel were injured, and the cause and manner of the accident are under investigation.
The Secret Service spokesman says a preliminary investigation suggests the man may have deliberately crashed into the security barrier.
According to the local television channel WUSA9, the truck was searched, and a Nazi flag was found, but the channel did not give more details.
