Microsoft Stops Years Earlier With App Updates
Microsoft Stops years earlier with App updates for Windows 8 than Planned. Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 8 from July 1, 2019.
Apps will no longer receive updates after that date, according to reports on Friday based on a modified blog post from Microsoft.
The company first assured to continue supporting app updates for Windows 8 to 2023,
but that end date has been brought forward by four years.
For the mobile version of the operating system, it was already clear that the support would stop after July 1 of this year.
Windows 8 has not received any security updates since early January 2016,
but apps can still be updated via the Windows Store.
Because Microsoft discontinued providing security support,
remaining users could update to Windows 8.1 for free.
It is not apparent how many people still use Windows 8.
Devices and apps that work with Windows 8.1 will receive up to 2023 updates.
