Ghislaine Maxwell Trial Begins
The trial of Ghislaine Maxwell (59) will start on Monday in the New York court. She is suspected of having arranged girls for sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, her ex-partner.
Four women claim they were recruited by Maxwell and then abused by Epstein. The sexual abuse is said to have taken place between 1994 and 2004 when the women were minors.
Maxwell denies all charges, for which she could face up to 80 years in prison if convicted. Her lawyers allege, among other things, that the prosecutors see their client as a replacement for Epstein.
The multimillionaire can no longer be prosecuted because he committed suicide in prison in 2019, pending an abuse case against him.
Maxwell was arrested in July 2020 after it was unclear where she was staying for a long time. The British socialite has since been held in a New York prison.
