First British Boat Stopped in French Harbour Over Fishing Riot
French fishermen stopped a British container ship in the port of St. Malo on Friday. On Thursday, the move was announced by fishermen who are angry that the UK is no longer issuing fishing licenses to French boats.
The protest started with fishermen setting off red torches. Then they blocked the harbour of St. Malo with their boats. The French fishermen also plan to block the tunnel from Calais to Dover and stop British ships from leaving the port of Calais.
According to France, the United Kingdom has issued fewer permits than agreed in the Brexit negotiations.
The UK says that France is not adhering to the agreements. The feud has been going on for several weeks and started when France seized a British trawler for allegedly fishing in French waters without a permit.
