Forest Fire in Southwestern France Stops Spreading
The forest fire that has been raging since Sunday in the French department of Landes, in the southwest of the country, “is no longer spreading.”
The department’s prefecture confirmed the latest state of affairs on Monday morning.
The fire, which covers an area of 300 hectares, is still going on. On Sunday evening, around 10.30 pm, 150 hectares of pine forest had already gone up in flames. Fifteen homes were evacuated as a preventive measure.
395 firefighters were deployed to fight the fire. They also used a fire-fighting plane and a fire-fighting helicopter.
