Another Journalist Murdered in Mexico
Another journalist has been murdered in Mexico. It concerns Juan Arjón López, the fourteenth journalist who was killed in the country this year, the organization Article 19 reported on Twitter on Wednesday.
This makes 2022 one of the bloodiest years for the press in the Latin American country.
Arjón López ran the news page “A qué le temes” (translated “What are you afraid of”) on Facebook. There he provided information on local affairs from the town of San Luis Río Colorado on the US border.
His body was found on the side of a highway on Tuesday. But, already on August 9, the first reports of his disappearance surfaced.
Mexico was the most dangerous country in the world for journalists for the third year in a row in 2021. According to a report by the organization Reporters Without Borders, seven journalists were killed in connection with their work last year.
Drug cartels or corrupt local politicians are often behind the violence.
