Iran threatens the US with a “quick and decisive” response to any US action against the country. The warning comes in response to previous threats from Washington.

US President Donald Trump threatened to crackdown on the Iranian Navy on Wednesday if it harasses American ships. He has instructed the US Navy to shoot and destroy all Iranian gunboats that are a nuisance, he reports on Twitter.

“We announce that we are fully committed and serious in defending our national security, maritime borders, our interests at sea and the safety of our ships,” commented Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, General Hossein Salami.

Trump’s threat came after Iranian Revolutionary Guards ships recently approached US naval ships as “dangerous and intimidating.”

Eleven Iranian boats are said to have repeatedly harassed six US ships during exercises in international waters in the Persian Gulf.

Tensions between the two states had already intensified after the US killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani during a drone attack in Iraq. Iran retaliated by targeting a base in Iraq where US troops were stationed.
