British Minister: China Wants To Talk About Agreements On Free Trade After Brexit
British minister: China wants to Talk about Agreements on free Trade after Brexit. China wants to talk to the United Kingdom (UK) about free trade agreements after the Brexit.
That is what British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt said Monday in Beijing during a press conference.
Hunt had talks with Chinese ministers who, according to him, would be open to a deal.
The minister is the successor of Boris Johnson, who resigned a month ago.
Johnson was the face of the campaign for the departure from the European Union.
He left because he did not agree with the ‘soft Brexit’ that the UK now seems to be approaching.
In January, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang promised British Prime Minister Theresa May that the relationship between the countries would not change through Brexit.
May already reported in 2016 that she needed to tighten ties with China.
She wrote in a letter to the Chinese Prime Minister and the President Xi Jinping.
In it, she expressed the wish to improve trade between countries and to cooperate more on global issues.
