Record Number of Almost 92,000 New Infections in France
The French health minister is deeply concerned about the country’s latest infection figures. On Thursday, nearly 92,000 new cases were identified in 24 hours. That is the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
“Today’s figures are not good,” said Minister Olivier Veran. Government data also shows that 179 corona patients have died in French hospitals in the past 24 hours. The number of corona patients in the IC increased by 61 to more than 3,200.
President Emmanuel Macron hopes to turn the tide with a booster campaign. By Christmas, 22 to 23 million French should be boosted. Up to Wednesday, 20 million people had received a booster shot.
Veran reported on Wednesday that new measures are not yet in the offing but already said that France will quickly reach 100,000 new infections per day by spreading the new omikron variant.
