May was Advised by Trump to Sue EU. US President Donald Trump has advised British Prime Minister Theresa May to sue the European Union instead of negotiating. That says May Sunday on the BBC.

The US president stated at a joint press conference on Friday that he had given May advice on the Brexit negotiations. At that moment it was not yet known what suggestion Trump meant.

“He said I had to sue the EU,” says May Sunday in The Andrew Marr Show. “Do not negotiate, just sue.” May then said that she neglected Trump’s advice.

“We continue to negotiate.” Trump had already indicated at the press conference that the British Prime Minister probably thought his advice was “too violent”.

Trump is currently in the UK and visited May on Thursday and Friday.

May has been under fire all week because of her Brexit strategy. Her published white paper led, among other things, to Brexit Minister David Davis and Boris Johnson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has resigned.

Thursday, May presented her vision for the Brexit in a white paper. This states, among other things that free movement of persons remains partially possible.

In doing so, she recommended that the UK accept measures for food and other goods with the EU. May also wants a customs deal in which the United Kingdom will collect both British and European tariffs.

On Sunday, the British Prime Minister wrote a guest speaker in the Mail on Sunday, in which she defended her white paper and warned the critics within her party to stay on board.

“We have to keep the goal in mind. Otherwise, we run the risk of being left behind with no Brexit at all,” wrote the Prime Minister.

Future
Against the British interview program, May also addressed her fate after being asked if she would take part in a possible leadership election: “I have always said that I am here for the long term.”

Since his resignation, Boris Johnson has been quoted several times as potential challenger of May. Johnson stands for a ‘hard’ Brexit, in which the British relationship with the EU is limited.

“We are on track for a semi-Brexit”, wrote the former mayor of London on Monday in his letter of resignation.

With the current strategy of the British Prime Minister, the United Kingdom threatens to become an “EU colony” according to Johnson.

The former Minister of Foreign Affairs has left behind the part of the Conservative Party that pleads for a ‘hard’ Brexit.
