Trump Threatens to Shut Down Social Media After Warnings on His Tweets
US President Donald Trump threatened on Wednesday to regulate or even shut down social media after microblogging site Twitter posted a fact check on tweets from him.
The President made that announcement on Twitter.
Trump posted two messages on Twitter on Tuesday claiming that postal voting is ‘substantially fraudulent’.
“Mailboxes will be looted, ballots will be forged and printed illegally and signed fraudulently,” he wrote.
Twitter then posted a symbol to the tweets along with the phrase, “Read the facts about postal elections here.”
Those who click on it will be redirected to a webpage in which Trump’s statements are refuted, including with the help of news articles.
It is the first time that the President of the United States has been whistled back on his favourite social networking site for spreading misleading information.
He does not accept that. Republicans feel that social media platforms entirely gag them. We will strictly regulate or even close them before we let this happen, ” Trump said on Twitter.
