Britain’s Worst Rail Strike in 30 Years
A massive strike for more wages will start on the British railways today/Tuesday. Thursday and Saturday are also on strike. The nuisance is great because it is the heaviest strike in 30 years.
It is the worst rail strike since 1989. More than 50,000 British rail workers take part in the action of the RMT union. Employees want more wages, in line with rising inflation.
The hindrance is great. Trains run on barely half of the railway lines. Four trains out of five have been cancelled. London Underground workers are also on strike.
For the British, the rail strike comes on top of the misery of recent weeks in the airports, where flights were cancelled en masse and travellers had to queue for hours due to staff shortages.
