26 People Die After Lightning Strikes in India
At least 26 people have been killed by lightning in India in 24 hours. Nine were also injured, authorities said.
Most of the fatalities were agriculturalists working in their fields in Bihar. The head of government of that poor state, Nitish Kumar, stated that the victims’ relatives would receive 400,000 rupees.
Severe storms with thunderstorms are common in India during the monsoon season from June to September. This often results in casualties.
For example, from April 2020 to March 2021, there were 1,619 fatalities.
