Qatar’s Airline Industry Surges Ahead of FIFA Legacy Projects

Qatar Airways has reported record profits for 2025, boosted by strong post-pandemic travel demand and new routes to Asia, Africa, and South America.

The airline’s success is tied to Qatar’s broader legacy projects following the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Doha’s Hamad International Airport has been ranked among the world’s best, and expansion plans include a new terminal designed to handle 70 million passengers annually.

With the Gulf competing fiercely in aviation, Qatar Airways’ growth puts it in direct competition with Emirates and Etihad, raising questions about how long the Gulf can sustain multiple “super airlines.”
