Saudi Arabia has announced the construction of a state-of-the-art airport to serve NEOM, its $500 billion mega-city. The new hub, set to open in 2027, will feature fully automated check-ins, biometric boarding, and dedicated zones for flying taxis.
The ambitious project is part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 plan to diversify its economy away from oil. Officials claim the airport will handle up to 25 million passengers annually once fully operational.
While the project has attracted global attention, critics question its sustainability and feasibility, with some branding NEOM as “too futuristic” to succeed. Still, investors remain keen, betting on Saudi Arabia’s determination to transform itself into a global innovation hub.
