Nearly 300 Schoolgirls Kidnapped in Northern Nigeria
In northwestern Nigeria, nearly 300 schoolgirls have been kidnapped by a gang of criminals.
According to the regional branch of the British broadcaster BBC, the gang raided the school in Zamfara state around midnight.
One of the girls’ fathers and a teacher told the BBC what happened. The authorities have not yet responded, the broadcaster says.
More than a week ago, dozens of schoolboys were kidnapped in Nigeria. In parts of the West African country, children are more often kidnapped to extort money from their parents.
Kidnapping is a plague there.
