Amazon Removes 200 Million Fake Reviews
Amazon removed more than 200 million false product reviews from its websites worldwide last year. The company is also increasingly taking legal action against companies selling false or unsubstantiated reviews.
In Germany alone, the internet giant started thirty procedures in 2018, Amazon announced on Sunday in Munich, Germany. The e-commerce giant says it has seen an increase in fake reviews in recent years. So last year, it had to remove significantly more from its platforms.
Moreover, it is a problem that does not only occur with online stores but also, for example, with websites for booking travel and hotels. Unfortunately, taking action against the sellers of those fake reviews is sometimes tricky because they often operate from abroad.
Amazon says it spends $700 million a year worldwide on personnel and software to detect and prevent fraud and manipulation.
