MMA Fighter Conor McGregor Charged With Sexual Assault in Miami
Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor has been sued by a woman who accuses him of sexual assault in June 2023 in Miami.
The Miami-Dade County Attorney’s Office, including the Florida metropolitan area, initially handled the case. Ultimately, McGregor was not charged due to insufficient evidence. The victim’s attorney then filed a civil suit.
In the lawsuit filed Tuesday, the woman accused the 36-year-old athlete of sexually assaulting her in the restrooms of the Kaseya Center, home to the Miami Heat professional basketball team.
“After a thorough investigation, the prosecutor concluded at the time that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Conor McGregor,” said the Irishman’s lawyer, Barbara Llanes. “We are confident that this charge will also be dismissed.”
The woman filed a complaint two days after the event and sued the Kaseya Center operator for negligence.
In November 2024, McGregor was ordered by a Dublin court to pay €248,603 in damages to another victim who had sued him for “brutally raping and beating” her.
Conor McGregor is a prominent figure in the professional mixed martial arts (MMA) league. Forbes magazine said he was the highest-earning professional athlete in 2020, with $180 million (£174 million).
