Djokovic Cancels Cincinnati Tennis Tournament
Novak Djokovic, who can claim his fourth grand slam title of 2021 at the US Open, has withdrawn from the Cincinnati tennis tournament.
He informed the organization on Monday that he needed more time to recover from the Olympic Games. The Serb lost in Tokyo in the semifinals to the German Alexander Zverev, the later Olympic champion.
He then had to leave the bronze to Spaniard Pablo Carreño Busta.
The 34-year-old Djokovic has been placed first in New York. He could turn out to be the first player since Rod Laver in 1969 to victory the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open in one year.
The favourite shares first place on the record list with Swiss Roger Federer and Spaniard Rafael Nadal with twenty grand slam victories.
