The United Arab Emirates has committed $10 billion towards developing green hydrogen infrastructure, aiming to become a global leader in renewable energy exports.
The move aligns with the UAE’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Green hydrogen, produced using renewable electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, is seen as a clean alternative for industries such as shipping, aviation, and steelmaking.
Experts predict the UAE could supply Europe and Asia with hydrogen by the end of the decade. However, the challenge remains to scale up production affordably, as current costs remain high compared to fossil fuels.
