Former President Obama Praises Jury for Verdict of Ex-Agent Chauvin
The jury that found white ex-cop Derek Chauvin guilty of black George Floyd’s death did the right thing. Former US President Barack Obama has said this in response.
“Today, the jury has done the right thing. But real justice requires much more than a single verdict in one case,” Obama added.
According to the former president, true justice requires that we honestly recognize that black Americans are treated differently. “We must recognize that millions of our friends, family members and fellow citizens live in fear that their next contact with the police may be their last.”
Obama is calling for concrete reforms to remove racial prejudice in the legal system.
“Michelle and I send our prayers to the Floyd family, hoping they find peace,” Obama said. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with all those who are determined to give every American full legal treatment, which George and so many others have not received.”
