British Prime Minister Creates Two New Ministries, Including One for Energy Security
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has reshuffled his government. A new Ministry for Energy Security will be established, guaranteeing energy supplies and lowering gas and electricity prices. Downing Street announced this on Tuesday.
Former Commerce Secretary Grant Shapps will head the new Department of Energy Security. In addition, Shapps will also be responsible for reducing inflation, one of the priorities of the Sunak administration.
That new department will be split from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, which will be merged with the Ministry of Commerce. Former Commerce Secretary Kemi Badenoch will head the new ministry.
Another novelty is the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology, headed by Michelle Donelan. Lucy Frazer will become Minister of Digital Affairs, Culture, Media and Sport.
According to the British media, Sunak is opting for the flight ahead with the extensive government reshuffle. More than a hundred days after taking office, Sunak is already under tremendous pressure. He cannot get a grip on the scandals in his party and has not yet been able to steer his own course.
The changes come after the resignation of Conservative Party chairman Nadhim Zahawi, who sat at the government table as minister without a portfolio. Greg Hands succeed him.
