Apple is currently lagging behind in the field of AI, but according to Bloomberg, the company is preparing to catch up.
The American tech giant reportedly has an ambitious plan for new devices, including robots, a smart speaker with a screen, and home security cameras.
An so-called “tabletop robot” that can serve as a companion for users is said to be the centrepiece of the AI strategy. The gadget is reportedly planned for 2027. Bloomberg had previously been aware of this project. But now more seems clear, although Apple itself declined to comment.
Attract attention
According to Bloomberg, the tabletop robot resembles an iPad with a movable arm that can follow the user around their home. The robot can also turn toward a talking person and even try to attract the attention of someone who isn’t looking. The device is also said to feature a completely new version of Siri. This voice assistant will soon be able to join multi-person conversations.
The smart speaker with a screen could be launched as early as next year, insiders – who wished to remain anonymous – told Bloomberg. Apple also views the home security market as a major growth opportunity, potentially enabling the company to compete with brands like Amazon’s Ring and smart cameras from companies like Nest and Hue.

Apple has long been criticised by experts for allegedly underinvesting in AI, while other tech companies are heavily investing in it. The company has also faced setbacks in recent years. For example, last year Apple decided to stop developing its own car.
