A Record Number of New Infections With Coronavirus in the US
The number of coronavirus infections in the United States has increased by a record 52,898 in the past day.
It is the most substantial daily increase in the US since the outbreak of the virus, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
It is the sixth time in a week that more than 40,000 new cases have been recorded.
The US, meanwhile, has 2.68 million infections. The death toll in the US from Covid-19 has risen to over 128,000.
The record was also broken on Wednesday. Then 47,000 new infections were counted.
The country’s leading infectious disease expert, virologist Anthony Fauci, warned earlier this week that the numbers could even double quickly. “We are clearly not in control now,” he said.
