EU leaders have approved a new climate law setting ambitious targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040.
The legislation builds on the 2030 “Fit for 55” plan and is designed to push member states towards a faster transition to renewable energy. Critics argue that the targets may be too ambitious without stronger investment in infrastructure and innovation.
Nonetheless, Brussels insists the law is vital to ensure the bloc meets its climate-neutral target by 2050, positioning Europe as a global leader in sustainability.
