More Than 3,500 Rental Cars Destroyed by Blaze At Florida Airport
At Southwest Florida International Airport in the United States, more than 3,500 rental cars have been destroyed by a major fire.
The vehicles were temporarily parked on a lawn near the airport in the city of Fort Myers, as cars are not rented due to the corona crisis.
According to American media, it was a gigantic conflagration with clouds of smoke and explosions that could be seen and heard far away.
Approximately eighty flights with fire helicopters were unable to prevent most of the vehicles from being entirely or partially burned.
Another parking lot, close to the scene of the calamity, had another 3,850 rental cars. They were not damaged. According to the latest reports, no casualties have occurred.
How the fire could have started is currently being investigated. It is not excluded that this is an arson by landlords who have been without income from the rental for some time.
