At the Turkish-Greek border, the Greek riot police and military have again used tear gas and flash grenades against migrants and refugees hoping to enter the European Union.

More than 10,000 migrants and refugees have been drawn to the border area since Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last week decided to open borders with the EU.

Migrants and refugees also take their chances by sea. Today a child drowned in a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island of Lesbos.

More than 10,000 migrants and refugees, mostly from Syria and other countries in the Middle East, have travelled to the border region between Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria, near the Turkish city of Edirne.

They hope to enter the EU countries, a few days ago when Turkish President Erdogan decided not to stop migrants and refugees from crossing the borders with the EU. He wants to put pressure on the European Union and NATO.

Turkey wants more money from the EU to host the refugees and more support from NATO in the military conflict in the Syrian province of Idlib.
